Reflections… a Scripture verse and inspiration for daily living [9/5]

Passage: Isaiah 57:14-21
Verse: Isaiah 57:18 (NIV 2011)
I have seen their ways, but I will heal them; I will guide them and restore comfort to Israel’s mourners.

In reading this passage, we are reminded that the obstacles that are in the way of us trusting and building a strong relationship with God will be removed.  It is a comfort to know that the Lord, our God, will not always accuse us, nor will He be angry with us forever [v. 16].  Even though He has seen our ways, He has chosen to restore us.  He will heal us.  Praise Him for all He does for us every day.  May His peace be felt, by each of us, as He passes near today.  (inspired by Reflecting God – Devotions for Holy Living, WordAction Publishing Company)

Reflections… a Scripture verse and inspiration for daily living [9/4]

Passage: Isaiah 55:1-13
Verse: Isaiah 55:2 (NIV 2011)
Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy?  Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare.

It seems like a simple concept; nobody wants to waste their money or their labor.  However, it also seems like many are in an endless search for what will truly satisfy them.  When “in Christ” we experience true fulfillment; we are satisfied.  May we all discover this kind of satisfaction.  May we each realize where are priorities should be placed.  May we seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near [v. 6].  May He be near to you each and every day.  (inspired by Reflecting God – Devotions for Holy Living, WordAction Publishing Company)

Passage: Psalm 37:1-11
Verse: Psalm 37:7 (NIV 2011)
Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.

There may be times when we look enviously at others who seem to be prospering in their evil or misguided ways, but this psalm reminds us that we should not be envious of them or desire to follow them in their ways.  Those who do evil in the eyes of the Lord are like the grass that will soon wither [v. 2].  Instead, we are told to hope in the Lord and trust that we will inherit the land and enjoy peace and prosperity [v. 11].  May we see others as God sees them.  May we desire only those things that are honoring to, and bring glory to, the Lord.  May we rest in God’s promise of peace and prosperity.  (inspired by Reflecting God – Devotions for Holy Living, WordAction Publishing Company)

Passage: 2 Samuel 22:21-37
Verse: 2 Samuel 22:28 (NIV 2011)
You save the humble, but your eyes are on the haughty to bring them low.

Samuel was faithful in following the laws of the Lord.  The Lord dealt with him according to his righteousness.  The Lord also rewarded him for his faithfulness.  We learn from this passage that the Lord will also deal with those that need to be humbled.  May we find ourselves listed among the faithful.  May we pray for those who may be humbled by the Lord.  May we always trust in the Lord, for He is our strength. Reflections… a Scripture verse and inspiration for daily living [8/19]

Passage: Psalm 68
Verse: Psalm 68:19-20 (NIV 2011)
Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.   Our God is a God who saves; from the Sovereign Lord comes escape from death.

God has a way of taking care of those wicked or evil forces that may surround us.  In many ways, He protects us physically and spiritually.  However, we need to remember, during the times when we sense an evil presence around us, to rebuke and cast away those evil forces in the name of Jesus, the Christ.  May we rejoice and be glad when the peacefulness in our soul is restored as the evil force flees.  May we praise God that He is at work in our lives and in the lives of those we love and pray for.  May we remember to thank Him for His daily provisions.

Summon your power, God; show us your strength, our God, as you have done before [v. 28].  May we proclaim the power of God, whose majesty is over Israel, whose power is in the heavens.  You, God… the God of Israel gives power and strength to his people [v.4-35].  May we use this power wisely… to advance Your kingdom and help to meet the needs of Your people.  All praise and glory be to God.

Reflections… a Scripture verse and inspiration for daily living [8/18]

Passage: Psalm 67 (NIV 2011)
On this day, let this psalm be our solemn and fervent prayer.

May God be gracious to us and bless us
and make his face shine on us—
so that your ways may be known on earth,
your salvation among all nations.

May the peoples praise you, God;
may all the peoples praise you.
May the nations be glad and sing for joy,
for you rule the peoples with equity
and guide the nations of the earth.
May the peoples praise you, God;
may all the peoples praise you.

The land yields its harvest;
God, our God, blesses us.
May God bless us still,
so that all the ends of the earth will fear him.

Amen, and Amen.

Reflections… a Scripture verse and inspiration for daily living [8/17]

Passage: Psalm 66 (NIV 2011)

Many a song has been written from the words and inspiration that come from Psalm 66.  In part, Psalm 66 says:

  • Shout for joy to God, all the earth!  Sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious [v. 1-2].
  • All the earth bows down to you; they sing praise to you, they sing the praises of your name [v. 4].
  • He rules forever by his power, his eyes watch the nations—let not the rebellious rise up against him [v. 7]
  • Praise our God, all peoples, let the sound of his praise be heard; he has preserved our lives and kept our feet from slipping [v. 8-9]
  • Come and hear, all you who fear God; let [us] tell [others] what he has done for [us] [v. 16].

May we do all these things, acknowledge all these things, be thankful for all these things, hear all these things, and seek after all the things of God that are written of in Psalm 66.  May all the praise be to God, who has not rejected [our] prayer or withheld his love from [us] [v. 20]!  Have a blessed day, in the Lord, and serve Him and Him alone.
