Reflections… a Scripture verse and inspiration for daily living [1/21/20]

Christ’s Sacrifice Once for All
The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming—not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship. Otherwise, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins. But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins. It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
Hebrews 10:1-4 (NIV)

Father, increase our faith according to your perfect plan. May we seek you with all our heart and humbly, by faith, choose you alone. Amen.

Reflections… a Scripture verse and inspiration for daily living [1/20/20]

I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!
Galatians 1:6-9 (NIV)

Romans 1:17 (NIV)

For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: The righteous will live by faith.

Have You Found it? – Second Sunday after the Epiphany [1/19/20]

Today’s Passage: John 1:29-42

Message [used with permission from A Sermon for Every Sunday]: Have You Found it? – Second Sunday after the Epiphany [1/19/20] by Jim Somerville, pastor of Richmond’s First Baptist Church and Co-Founder of A Sermon for Every Sunday.
Have you found what you’re looking for? Jim Somerville begins this week’s sermon by quoting a U2 song that begins with these words: “I have climbed the highest mountains, I have run through the fields…but I still haven’t found what I’m looking for.” That song has haunted an entire generation, because it makes them wonder, “What about me? Have I found what I’m looking for?” In this week’s Gospel lesson, John 1:29-42, two of John’s disciples come looking for Jesus, and when they find him they seem to have found exactly what they were looking for.  Jesus asks the question directly, “What are you looking for?” If you cannot answer this question or even if you think you have it figured out, listen as Somerville explores this question and gives his opinion on how to answer this age old question.

Reflections… a Scripture verse and inspiration for daily living [1/19/20]

I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus. For in him you have been enriched in every way—with all kinds of speech and with all knowledge— God thus confirming our testimony about Christ among you. Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed. He will also keep you firm to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
1 Corinthians 1:4-9 (NIV)

A man will be justified by faith when, excluded from righteousness of works, he by faith lays hold of the righteousness of Christ, and clothed in it, appears in the sight of God not as a sinner, but as righteous. – John Calvin
