Galatians 5:22-23 (NASB)

Reflections… a Scripture verse and inspiration for daily living [12/19/19]

As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?
My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me all day long, “Where is your God?”
These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go to the house of God under the protection of the Mighty One with shouts of joy and praise among the festive throng.

Psalm 42:1-4 (NIV)

Our minds are mental greenhouses where unlawful thought, once planted, are nurtured and watered before being transplanted into the real world of unlawful actions. These actions are savored in the mind long before they are enjoyed in reality. The thought life, then, is our first line of defense in the battle of self-control.  – Jerry Bridges

Reflections… a Scripture verse and inspiration for daily living [12/18/19]

Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near. Don’t grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door!

Brothers and sisters, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.

James 5:7-10 (NIV)

Prayer, Praise, & Promises Dec. 17, 2019

Father, help us to remain self-controlled even when our tempers flare. Remind us that everyone around us is filled with anxious and anticipatory thoughts, some will be sad, some will be angry, some will be greedy and self-absorbed. Touch our very souls, Father. Renew our minds with tender mercies and love for our fellow human beings. Help us to be the image of Jesus for them and for ourselves. Amen.

Reflections… a Scripture verse and inspiration for daily living [12/17/19]

And Mary said: “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me—holy is his name.
His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation.
He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble.
He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty.
He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful to Abraham and his descendants forever, just as he promised our ancestors.”

Luke 1:46-55 (NIV)

Reflections… a Scripture verse and inspiration for daily living [12/16/19]

Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God.
He is the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them—he remains faithful forever.
He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry.
The Lord sets prisoners free, the Lord gives sight to the blind, the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down, the Lord loves the righteous.
The Lord watches over the foreigner and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.
The Lord reigns forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations.
Praise the Lord.
Psalm 146:5-10 (NIV)

Anger is not in itself sinful, but…it may be the occasion for sin. The issue of self-control is the question of how we deal with anger. Violence, tantrums, bitterness, resentment, hostility, and even withdrawn silence are all sinful responses to anger. – R. C. Sproul

If you want to know if I’m a Christian, you need to ask him.’” In today’s text, Matthew 11:2-11, John asks Jesus if he is the Messiah and Jesus gives a similar answer.
