What Does the Spirit Do? – a Sermon for the Day of Pentecost [6/9/19]

Today’s Passage:  John 14:8-17

Opening Prayer: Holy Spirit, come.  Make Your presence known.  Fill us to overflowing.  May You open our hearts, minds, and spirit to the Truth.  May the Truth guide us, mold us, and change us to be more like Christ.  In the name of Jesus, I pray, to the glory of God.  Amen.

Opening Song: Meredith Andrews with Vertical Church Band – “Open Up The Heavens”

Message [used with permission from A Sermon for Every Sunday]:  “What Does the Spirit Do?” a Sermon for the Day of Pentecost by Will Willimon, a retired bishop in the United Methodist Church, a powerful preacher, and a prolific author.
Will Willimon preaches the Gospel text for Pentecost Sunday from John 14:8-17, and asks the question: “How do we get to know God?”  Through Jesus!  “How do we continue getting to know God and God’s will for us and the world?”  Through the Holy Spirit! But what does the Holy Spirit do? Listen as Willimon unpacks this passage and shares with us the good news that we are not alone in this world!
